Sid Meier’s Civilization for DOS

The turn based strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization, published in 1991, is one of the most popular strategy games of all time. Civilization spawned a series that persists even today, including online gaming. The latest release, Civ V, being published in 2010. Civ is often viewed as the origin of the strategy subgenre 4X, “explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate”, though the 4X term was first used in reference to Master of Orion.

Your aim is to build an empire to stand the test of time and become the ruler of the world by establishing and leading a civilization from the dawn of man into the 21st century. Several strategies can be employed to achieve your goal, as both brute force conquest, highest score by 2050 AD, winning the space race by succesfully lauch a spacecraft to the Alpha Centauri system or getting the most diplomatic votes will win the game.

A manuel for Civilization can be found at Civilization Fanatics’ Center. Also, check out the tech tree.
